Summer in the City: Part 2

Time for more adventuring! The city has been keeping me busy (hence the lack of blogging), but I've got plenty of material and photos to share so I hope you enjoy!

Happy TV

I have been a lifelong fan of television. Now we're in a bit of a golden age, with shows like Game of Thrones and Breaking Bad dominating the conversation, but I have some other shows I'd like to talk about. I have always gravitated toward certain random shows that have made me giddy happy. It's often quirky, smart writing that just makes me roll on the floor laughing and that I hold dear to my heart years after these shows have aired. For one thing, it's just great to be witnessing a golden age in television, but a lot of it is pretty bleak so I unabashedly obsess over the shows that are quirky, shamelessly happy, and willing to look silly. Here they are in order of discovery:

Us, a dance

It has been a good long while since I have shared a dance on here, so I'm throwing up one of my favorites. Kate Jablonski is one of my favorite youtube finds. Her choreography is unique and always kind of brilliant. She lets her dancers build character and really make an impact and I am always left moved when I watch her dances. This one, a favorite in particular, asks us to accept each other especially for our differences, instead of being carbon copies of each other. It does so in the most colorful, happy way with one of my all-time favorite songs, Us by Regina Spektor.

This weekend I took my second trip out of the UK! I went to Amsterdam, land of weed, prostitutes, and canals, and Bruges, home to the excellent movie with Colin, Brendan, and Ralph... my good friends. It was possibly the most fun I have had yet! Both cities were beautiful and I had my fair share of touristing (per usual).

Adventures in New York

This summer has found me interning and living in Manhattan and it has been the experience of a lifetime so far. Between exploring and truly getting to know the city, whereas before I had always vaguely known where I was and where I was going, I have come to accept public transportation, hate and love (and love to hate) midtown, and view the city from rooftops that are neither bars nor the ESB. I've seen some shows, a bunch of movies, and spent more than my fair share of time in dance class. The parks have been my convenient sanctuaries, more common and easy to come across than one might think. There's nothing quite like the pace or the fact that there is just about everything you (or at least I) want within reach. I've pounded the pavement and tried my best to see the city in my own light. Here are a few ways in which I did so!
