Style Icon: Diane Kruger

Diane Kruger is all kinds of awesomeness. She is always wearing legitimately high fashion pieces that most celebrities bypass in an effort to be safe, she wears them amazingly well, and she styles herself! She has such a point of view to all of her dressing. Diane has always been one of my style icons, but this year she has been having such a fantastic run! Every picture I see of her is stunning and unique. She has the gift of being a style chameleon and yet remaining herself completely while trying all these different styles.

Much of her great fashion sense was seen at Cannes this year, where she was a part of the jury.

To kick off Cannes she wore this Versus by Versace dress with Jimmy Choo heels.
This is clearly an insanely difficult dress to pull off. Not only does your body need to be just about perfect, but the styling is tricky. The wrong shoes could have made it rather garish, but instead, the Jimmy Choo's are a great balance of hard and soft that mimic the cutouts in the dress perfectly. The tousled waves and soft makeup tone the look down while keeping it relaxed.

Just later that night she stepped out in Giambattista Valli
The color, the giant floaty sleeve, the way it picked up in the wind - all gorgeous! The hair that's not 100% slick, but has some texture, the minimal jewelry and makeup - they all work together to keep this from being stuffy or typical. Instead, it's breathtakingly easy.

She also stepped out in one of my favorite designers, Vivienne Westwood:
The thing about Diane Kruger is that nothing wears her. From the high-fashion pieces to her casual looks for day, she always stands out. This is no exception. She goes old Hollywood glamourous in this bronzy sequined look. The structure of the dress helps to keep the look from going off the rails. The earrings are the perfect touch of jewelry. Something sparkly by her face, but nothing too over the top to compete with the dress. The makeup and hair are perfectly effortless.

My absolute favorite from Cannes, Dior haute couture:
Nothing made me happier than Diane's choice of Dior. Not only was it Dior, but it was a Dior that not many others would actually choose to wear! Granted, Cannes is not the typical red carpet event, but this is still a fabulously daring choice of fabric, silhouette, everything. The earrings are again, a beautiful compliment. She played up the destructed 50s nature of the dress with a tousled and not quite perfect ponytail. Her flawlessly dewey skin is something I never get quite right, so props to whoever does her makeup.

Now, for some quick takes:

Chanel

Chanel

Prada

Nina Ricci

All are simply exquisite, and high-fashion to boot - something that not many try on the red carpet. We'll just leave that to the likes of Diane and Emma Stone (note: eagle belt)
