Zenon, Girl of the 21st Century Tech Accessories

You remember Zenon with the crazy outfits and obnoxious colors. She was fashion forward and amazing to my ten-year-old self. Luckily, now we can all be just as stellar as she was with the huge range of cases for iPhones, iPads, and laptops available! You'll be the most fashion forward girl around by playing with color (anything goes!), texture (cool finishes like leather or wood), and embellishments (tassels, studs, and beads). Check out my picks!

Cases like these are also a great way to start building your designer collection without absolutely destroying your bank account. My own case is a spunky floral from Marc Jacobs!

Baby's First Crop Top

I finally gave in and bought my first (two) crop tops. They were uber on sale and I was indulging in a bit of a Cher Horowitz moment. I decided to stay relatively tame and wearable with a plain black short sleeve top. I figured, even if I don't always wear it as a crop top (winter is coming, I love to layer!), it will still be a great piece to utilize no matter the season. I went for the classic pairing of high waisted skirt and crop top, because it just doesn't get more perfect than that!

5 awesome things to get your through the week!

1. Actors who are actually friends
Okay I don't really like Full House (sue me) and I really hated Kimmy Gibbler but the fact that Candace Cameron Bure and Andrea Barber are actually still BFFs in real life makes me impossibly happy. Even better - David Krumholtz and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, buds in the classic 10 Things I Hate About You are still buddies and are even collaborating together on a project for JGLs production company!

Celebrity and "Relatability"

It's the Jennifer Lawrence effect. She has enchanted the public with her wit, beauty, and supposed quality in which we can all relate to her. She is amazingly likable, genuinely funny, and instead of treating PR as apart of her job as an actress, lets herself have a good time and refuses to take it too seriously.

Anne Hathaway is on the opposite end of public opinion. She "irks" people. She comes across as too professional and annoyingly earnest. She is the consummate professional and constantly gives thoughtful, eloquent answers when asked questions. Additionally, she rocks the living daylights out of that pixie cut, is BFFs with Valentino, and has real flaws. Despite all this, people hate her and can't seem to put a finger on why they hate her.

Summer Movie Monday: Fruitvale Station

Fruitvale Station
Opening Friday, July 26th
Directed by: Ryan Coogler
Starring: Michael B. Jordan, Melonie Diaz, Octavia Spencer, Kevin Durand, Chad Michael Murray, Ahna O'Reilly, Ariana Neal, Keenan Coogler, Trestin George, Joey Oglesby, Michael James, Marjorie Shears, Destiny Ekwueme, Bianca Rodriguez III, Julian Keyes
94% on Rotten Tomatoes

Fruitvale Station is the very true story about Oscar Grant III who was shot by a police officer at a BART station one night. I'm not sure how many artistic liberties this movie will take, but no matter your stand on issues, it will probably be an important and enlightening movie to see regardless. It's a movie that I'm apprehensive to see only because I've heard how visceral and raw reactions can be to this and I don't know if I'll be able to keep myself together in a public movie theater if I try. This movie is an example of why film-making is so important. Not only are movies a form of escapism and entertainment, but they can serve to bring new perspectives to situations that might not be considered otherwise. Therefore, I urge you to check out Michael B. Jordan, Octavia Spencer, and the rest of the cast as they portray Grant's story in hopefully as honest a way as possible.

Her Campus Conference

If you've noticed the badge at the bottom of my blog, you'll have noticed that I am apart of the Her Campus Blogger Network. It's an amazing network of some of the coolest blogs around, all with unique voices and styles. My previous post about the Kreativ Blogger Award and my Blog Roll both have links to some of these blogs! Check them out.

Additionally, if you're interested in blogging, fashion, business, writing, and more, check out an amazing opportunity! Her Campus is hosting their National Intercollegiate Conference in my home for the summer, New York City on July 27th and July 28th. It is open to bloggers in the network and anyone else too! Not only is this a great excuse to visit Manhattan, which is full of amazing things to do during the summer, but the Conference itself will be so packed with enlightening speakers and goodies galore that you won't want to miss it! Saturday is only open to members of the Her Campus Blogger Network, but Sunday is for everybody! The illustrious speakers come from the likes of Teen Vogue, Lucky, Seventeen, Redbook, The Huffington Post, and so many more. If you have any inkling to go into the fashion industry or get involved with blogging or writing, this is the place to be on July 27th and 28th! Register while you still can!

If you do end up going, here are some of my favorite things to do in the city!
If you're a newbie, there are the major sites to see - a show on Broadway (Once is amazing), Times Square (only to get cookies at Schmackary's), and Central Park (check out Belvedere Castle).

However, if you want to have some more fun, go and spend some time where you haven't before! Check out Tribeca, the Village, and if you have time (and energy) walk from West to East, going from the Hudson to the Brooklyn Bridge. The best thing I can possibly say is to research a little, but let yourself wander a lot! And check out Bleecker St, always Bleecker (home of Magnolia's, Bookmarc, and more).

Have fun in New York and if you go, remember to come back here and let me know what you thought and what you found!

Thoughts on Chaos and Couture

I finally went to the Met exhibit! I've been wanting to go to these exhibits for literal years so when I found myself on the threshold of a Met fashion exhibit and one about one of my absolute favorite eras, I was full of jittery excitement and anticipation. I get the whole "couture isn't really punk because it's couture" thing, but I think people just need to get off their high horses and just enjoy the awesome exhibit that was put together.

Summer Movie Monday: Women

I decided not to post last week because I'm just plain not interested in Grown Ups 2 or Pacific Rim. We're back on track this week however, with two very intriguing movies about intriguing women (I hope).

Lovelace
Opening Friday, July 12th
Directed by: Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman
Starring: Amanda Seyfried, Peter Sarsgaard, Juno Temple, Sharon Stone, Robert Patrick, Chris Noth, Adam Brody, Hank Azaria, Wes Bentley, James Franco, Eric Roberts, Chloë Sevigny, Bobby Cannavale
56% on Rotten Tomatoes

This could either be intriguing and raw or it could be tacky and tasteless... it is a biopic about a porn star after all. Seyfried is a good actress and if she plays this the right way and the script delves deep enough, she might be considered a great actress. I'm not so sure that'll happen though. Peter Sarsgaard is brilliant at playing sleazy characters that you somehow don't completely hate so he should be a perfect fit here. Still, I have my doubts that this will hit the right tone. It could alienate the audience easily, depending on whether it glorifies or condemns the porn industry, as much as I would hope that it would take the angle of showing the consequences of what happened to Linda as a result... We'll see.

Girl Most Likely
Opening Friday, July 19th
Directed by: Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini
Starring: Kristen Wiig, Annette Bening, Darren Criss, Natasha Lyonne, Matt Dillon, June Diane Raphael, Nathan Corddry, Michelle Hurd, Mickey Sumner, Emma Myles, Peter Austin Noto, Ronald Guttman, Nicole Patrick, Brian Petsos, Jonny Orsini
15% on Rotten Tomatoes

Kristen Wiig as a dysfunctional and desperate woman who is forced to move back in with her mother, the always wonderful Bening, and the young man who is renting out her old room, Criss. It should be quite a wild ride. Wiig has proven that she can make characters real and ridiculous and ridiculously funny at the same time. Plus we get to see Darren Criss act like a Backstreet Boy which is always fun, and given the context, will hopefully be uproariously funny.

Also playing: The Conjuring (84%), Turbo (66%), Red 2 (39%), Grown Ups 2 (7%), Pacific Rim (72%)

Coming next week: The To Do List, Fruitvale Station (91%), Blue Jasmine (91%), The Wolverine (65%)

Haute Couture Fall 2013

Ah, life is good with couture in the air. One of my favorite collections ever, Dior Couture Fall 2010 came during this series of shows and I still dream about it today! The craftsmanship combined with the complete and utter fantasy of fashion coming true right before your eyes is what makes couture so beloved. It is the ultimate in fashion, between the obsessive perfectionism in tailoring (everything is measured, each arm, each wrist) and the over the top, avant garde creations.

Enjoy some highlights from this year's fall collections and feast on the eye candy! My favorites are Armani Privé, Christian Dior, Giambattista Valli, and Valentino!

It's 1963 and you're Baby Houseman

It's that time of year when you're going on vacation to a beautiful resort and meeting that amazing dance instructor who shows you how to live. Oh wait.. you're not Baby, and you just might be in the corner. None of that matters when you've got a wardrobe reminiscent of Dirty Dancing and all of those vintage summer beach movies!

Summer Movie Monday: Minions, Tonto, and an Average Looking Teenager

Despicable Me 2
Opening Wednesday, July 3rd
Directed by: Pierre Coffin & Chris Renaud
Starring: Steve CarellKristen WiigBenjamin BrattMiranda CosgroveRussell BrandKen JeongSteve CooganElsie Kate FisherDana GaierMoises AriasNasim PedradKristen Schaal
75% on Rotten Tomatoes

The first one was so damn cute and funny that I can't help the little ball of nervous excitement that's been growing. Like any sequel, though, it could be in danger of repeating itself or just falling flat. As amazing and perfect as the minions are, if there's too much focus on them, it might not be enough movie for audiences. The first movie had a really perfect amount.
