A Crusade Against Tan Tights

I am horrified - ABSOLUTELY HORRIFIED - to see tan, nude, whatever the frack you'd like to call them, tights being worn outside a dance studio. It's just not okay. As a dancer for about... 15 years I can say, with confidence, that they do not look good. Tan tights will never ever match your skin tone. Talk about cheesey! Your arms and face are one color and your legs another. Who really wants to look like that? I don't like them while dancing (please, people, just go without tights!), I don't like them on BeyoncĂ©, they're sketchy. Period. If you're going to wear tights, please, any color besides one that's a skin tone. ANY. Hot pink. Lime green. White.

Just
not
tan.

Day 25: Dusk Til Dawn

I took this photo at, you guessed it, dusk. I'm starting to notice that I photograph lights A LOT. I guess it's an obsession. I took other pictures without the lamp post in them but they came out pretty bad.

Day 24: Symmetry

This is a compact mirror that my mom gave me years ago. I can't actually believe that I still have it. I love the way it catches light, but I didn't focus this shot so well, unfortunately.

Day 23: Lost and Found

I always like how this necklace photographs (and I'm guessing that in the coming year a few pictures of these will crop up). I hate the background, which is my butt ugly desk at school.

Day 22: NBC

I'm not completely sure why, but this reminds me of the NBC peacock logo. They're actually little magnetic paper clip things.

Day 21: Murray

It snowed a bunch today and I went out and photographed some of the loveliness and this was one of my favorite shots. This is DJM's building at Marist College

Day 20: Fake Sunset

So clearly I played around with the saturation and levels in this photo but I like how fake it looks. The yellow is SO yellow that it's a little startling and much too technicolor. I took this down by the river at school and was partially blinded from the half hour I spent staring into the sun. When I saw all of the geese circling I took my chance and shot. I really like the result.

Day 19: Berry Sweet

This is how uncreative I'm feeling today...... I'm calling this "Berry Sweet." Ick. Anyway, this photo was taken by DJM's little building. I absolutely love this building, so I'm pretty confident that some pictures of it will crop up here eventually.
It's nice to see a few berries in the dead of winter, even if they're not exactly edible or tasty or anything. Just a little reminder that life flourishes in all circumstances.

Day 18: Home Away from Home

Here it is, the glorious* rotunda at Marist. I kind of hate this picture, but it was the better of the two I took, so here it is. It looks much prettier at night or during a sunset.
<3TC
*Yeah I promise it looks better at night.

Day 17: Path to Beauty

Upon coming back to school I have a wealth of beautiful spots to photograph. This is by one of the academic buildings and townhouses and as I was talking on the phone looking for something to photograph I just thought this was a lovely choice. The Hancock Building is one of my favorites on campus (despite the fact that I still haven't had a class in it, so sad), and I'm sure I'll take a few more shots of it in the coming year.

Day 16: The Caged Bird

This is my desk lamp at school and I completely adore it. I am so happy my mom let me get it, it's really one of my favorite things in my dorm room* and it's amazingly fun to photograph, especially when you can control the focus! The one thing that HUGELY irritates me is that a little bit of the light bulb is in the picture. I took another similar to this, but aside from that bit of the bulb I liked this one more compositionally.
<3TC
*I am pretty much in love with everything in my dorm room, so that's not saying much.

Day 15: Wrap it Up

This is of a bow on a present that my mom was going to give a friend for Christmas. As it was coming to the end of my glorious break, and I was "wrapping everything up" so to speak, I thought it was fitting. I'm not in love with this picture, but it works I guess.

Day 14: Gypsy

This is a ring holder that I bought my mom years ago for mother's day. I love the colors in it and the light really picked up on that. The way the rings layer on it is so pretty. I thought it looked nice on the marble countertop.

Late Night Ramblings...

So I know it's by no means a spectacular movie, but I am very taken with Wimbledon... I think it's the combination of Paul Bettany and James McAvoy. TBS used to constantly play A Knight's Tale and ever since then I've always found Bettany impossible to resist. He's got quite a sharp tongue, which, for a cynic, is always tempting. McAvoy.... well between Atonement and Penelope, he's kind of perfect.

Speaking of Atonement, Benedict Cumberbatch (seriously, who comes up with these names?) is in The Hobbit and I am so freaking excited. It's got quite an exciting cast and it really should be pretty spectacular.

Well that's a tiny example of how my brain works. Apparently, not everyone goes on trails like this. I guess I'm a bit of a freak...hopefully not a completely unbearable one though! I went from Wimbledon to The Hobbit in 3 seconds flat! I do wish I could find a few more people who had taste like me. It can be difficult sometimes to have nobody who knows what I'm talking about. I really only need one person who gets me! Not to be all "oh I'm so misunderstood and unique, look at me, wah wah," but sometimes I feel too different, like I can't talk to my friends because we have nothing in common. The dance thing is also tough. Dance is like therapy. It's not just a workout. It's an emotional release too, even if it's just a ballet technique class. Music is emotion. Dance puts that into something...tangible. I hear music with my body. This is something that every dancer who has a tiny ounce of passion can understand, but that other people just don't get. Having the ability to express yourself with more than words... it's like the words just seep into your skin and you become one with the music and that's that.

My brain, ladies and gentlemen, is a curious place to be sometimes. Or maybe never.

Day 13: Classic New Hampshire

As I'm still entranced with the beautiful winter wonderland outside, I couldn't resist taking more pictures of our banister (some to make up for the bad quality of the ones from yesterday), which was glittering with snow and of course the twinkly Christmas lights that are still up.

Day 12: Winter Winds

FINALLY FINALLY FINALLY! A couple inches of snow! I couldn't be happier :) Who doesn't want to live in their own snow globe? Naturally, I took advantage of the opportunity with my camera. Not all of the pictures came out great, I'm still working on getting used to my camera, though.

Since this is kind of due...

I haven't really explained what else I'm going to do with this. I'm using the site 365project.org for the same purposes as the previous posts of this blog; posting a photo every day. This blog is also going to serve for rumination and rambling, fashion posts, movie/tv reviews, whatever. Basically, I'm throwing everything in and not limiting what this can be :).

Today it snowed! Finally, there are a few inches on the ground in New Hampshire. I'm back in my snow globe, and it does feel great! I can't wait to pull on my warm clothes and grab my camera and take a walk around the block.

These past couple days I've been watching a lot of Parenthood again. It's really such a great show. The actors all do a lovely job and it feels like a REAL family, not a parody like Arrested Development (one of the best shows ever) and not a melodramatic soap opera family. This season is really pretty great, full of honesty and heart.

Day 11: Song of Light

Some CDs were out and since the room was relatively dark I knew that I could play with bouncing the light with my flash. Some really interesting things happened. I started playing with regular silver CDs and then remembered that we have a purple one hanging around and I loved what happened with the light on the purple one.

Day 10: Classic with a Twist

Today I put my Chanel Chance perfume on my bed and shined my desk lamp at the bottle to create a pretty effect with the light.

Day 9: Light My Fire

This is one of those little solar balls that goes in the ground and lights up at night? Either way, it's pretty!

Day 8: Bogged Up

Cape Cod is known for its cranberry bogs, but what comes to mind is typically the vision of beautiful cranberries filling an expanse of space. A bog during the winter is much less abundant. When we drove by the remains of this bog on the way to the beach today I was struck by the lonely beauty of the remaining cranberries on the water, which looked more like a pond than a bog. The water was like a mirror, reflecting the trees and the sky, a sight I found to be quite lovely.

Day 7: Sunny Coast

This weekend we're at the Cape for my dad's birthday and we went to Chatham today. After shopping we drove over to the beach to see some seals (which were easily viewed with my dad's handy binoculars, but not so much with my non-zoom-lensed camera). While my parents were looking at the seals I noticed the lovely glimmering water in the other direction.
The natural (aka not photoshopped) lens flare was an added bonus, for I do love me some lens flare :).

Day 6: A Light for the Lost

This light fixture on the front of my house (there are two actually) is a guilty pleasure to photograph. The swirl and the high contrast always come off beautifully. The garland was an added element that was equally lovely (It's 2:30AM, I'm tired, this probably makes little-to-no sense).

Day 5: A Light Dusting

It snowed a TINY bit today! Since it's not common knowledge to my zero readers, I absolutely love snow... about as much as Lorelai Gilmore. So driving through a little flurry today was heaven. When I got home from dance (which was like therapy, so incredibly fun and killer hard on my body) there was some snow left on the driveway, as seen below.

Day 4: Retro Goody

Last year my photography teacher had a bunch of very old cameras that she was either getting rid of, or giving to her lovely students. I took home a Topcon. I haven't actually gotten to use it yet but it's fun to play with. Sometime I'll get some film and we'll see how it goes.

Day 3: Lights Came Flying

Today I made an attempt to NOT photograph Christmas decorations...... so instead I photographed my Christmas tree lights! Clearly I don't move on at a speedy pace, but it's still pretty :).
I have a continuous fascination with photographing light. It's not a science in any  way, and the unpredictability makes it fun. Hence, many pictures of flying light taking up space on my computer!

Day 2: Glitter Glitter Everywhere

My house looks a little like a dance recital threw up right now, what with the extensive amounts of GLITTER! As a dancer, this is practically comfort food, so I've got no issue with it. It's especially fun to photograph. I love playing with light and the flash bouncing off the glitter and so  the garland on our banister was delightful!
Let the festivity continue! (even though Christmas is over... and yes, I am aware of that)

Day 1: The Aftermath and the Revolution

So here we go. 365 days of photos... and some other shtuff accompanying. My wonderful mother turned me onto this revolutionary (for me at least!) idea. Taking a picture and posting it every day. A little photo album of a year of my life. For someone who just got a stunning Nikon D5100, this is perfect. I'm going to do my best to stick with it.

And onto the main event! Christmas is my favorite time of year and it only seemed natural that I photograph the aftermath of it for my first photo (since, let's face it, Christmas is continuing in my house).

That's all for today :)
